Commercial Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs)

This page was last updated on May 3, 2024

Commercial hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities are permitted to store, treat and dispose of hazardous waste generated off-site and received from other companies. A commercial facility is one that receives wastes and is owned by a separate entity than the waste generator or transporter. Commercial facilities in Pennsylvania managed about 360,095 tons of hazardous waste in 2021. The three largest management categories for waste managed at commercial facilities were: metals recovery (48 percent); stabilization (48 percent) and energy recovery (3 percent). Together, these three management categories accounted for 99 percent of the commercially managed hazardous waste in Pennsylvania.
